Chris Evert – 1954
Christine Marie Evert was regarded as America’s tennis sweetheart. Evert had great muscle memory. It was at the age of 5 that she began her journey of being a tennis player. She hit tennis balls under the watchful eye of her coach and father Jimmy Evert.
The sound of the balls coming off her racquet almost had rhythmic tones. Her two-handed backhand was also regarded as flawless. She has been an inspiration for countless others who wanted to join the game.
She went on to win 18 Grand Slam singles championships and three doubles titles. She has been the year-end world no. 1 singles player seven times. Overall, Evert has gone on to win 157 singles titles and 32 doubles titles! She has had a flawless career and although she has recently faced a few health scares, we are sure she is going to overcome them with great aplomb.
