How many times have you heard your friends or family members using these words- ‘I’m so bored!’ Well, we all have, and we have uttered that also. But sometimes, even the most casual utterance of these words can impact our minds negatively. So it makes sense to either figure out something that’s pending as there is always or do some odd job that would keep you preoccupied, at least temporarily.
Believe it or not, there are plenty of creative things that you can do. But how would you if you don’t invest the time, though, and imagination of finding such activities? For ideas, here’s a list of few such activities that you can indulge in to keep boredom at bay and let your creative streaks come into play!
Have a Costume Night
The moment we talk about piling costumes on ourselves, we immediately think of Halloween. Isn’t it entertaining to dress up in a costume for no reason? Yes, it might sound bizarre, and sometimes we’re too lazy to do that. But let that not spoil the fun of it altogether.
So eat your dinner, dress up, arrange for some fun games, and throw a party. A ‘themed’ costume party would be the best. But ensure you choose the options carefully- time era, movie characters or book characters, or anything of your choice.
Have a Christmas Party (*in the summer)
Wait. What? Christmas during summers? Yes, that’s the idea! To let that feeling come in, you can make some arrangements early, like buying few presents or donating to families and organizations that generally get such provisions at that time of the year. Keep your colorful wrapping papers handy.
The moment you start packing gifts or dressing up like Santa Claus to cheer kids, there will be a feel-good factor surrounding you. This is innovative (if you instead choose not to call it odd). Also, this exercise cultivates in the young members of the family a degree of mindfulness towards others. Plus, it’s unique.
Host an International Dinner Night
Sounds tricky? Not really, if you know which cuisine you would like to select and you’re comfortable with. Or you can choose a cuisine of certain land that’s unique. Plan your menu likewise, and then you can start preparing for the dinner that would be served exactly the way it is in that country.
For some added fun, deck yourself in the clothing and accessories that natives usually wear in that place. Now if individual family members start doing this, it gets exciting. It’s a creative learning task. So you can play a Mexican and prepare tacos, enchiladas, and more, while someone else can be the Italian with pizzas and lasagne.
Make a Scarecrow
Ring in the autumn by making scarecrows. After all, the season is never complete without them! Let that inner kid unleash its potentials by storing and stacking those crumbled leaves that have fallen off inside old garments. It would surprise you, no doubt, but you might find the adults too, coming and helping you with this highly child-like game.
Just in case you have an 8-year old and then someone in his 80, and together you witness them, making scarecrows- what a sight that would be! This is something different and truly an activity that you will cherish. If your choice is to make an indoor scarecrow and not for the yard or garden, try resorting to paper towels, napkins, or newspapers stitched in the stuffing.
Have a Photo Shoot
Now, this is interesting. Bring those outfits from the wardrobe and get some props together. Now start clicking family pictures. Before that, be creative and discuss your ideas. You can take some individual shots against the background.
Tell a few of them to give funny poses. Some can wear serious looks instead. Don’t forget the candid shots. The best thing about digital photography is that you can take countless snapshots and even delete the ones you know don’t fit the bill. But as stated earlier, get some exciting props and colors.
Will you still say you are bored? In case you do, it’s time you get into that active mode and get these done quickly. And soon, you will be bidding adieu to boredom.
