Did you know that the Time Square New Year’s Eve Ball resulted due to the ban of fireworks? It was in 1907 when the first ball was illuminated. It was 700 pound in weight and made out of iron and wood and had over a hundred small 25 watt bulbs all over it to illuminate it. Every year, the ball became bigger, more unique and dazzling.

New Year resolutions! Well, we all make New Year resolutions after a long debate whether or not we will be able to follow it sincerely with all our heart. But did you know that most people in USA make their resolutions that revolve around their habits. Based on a survey, 40 to 45% of the people in America make more than one New Year resolution, each year. And guess what, these resolutions are all about their weight loss, smoking habits, exercise habits, money management and etc. And the funny fact is, almost 25% of these people already abandon these resolution by mid-January.
BURN MR. OLD YEAR
Burn the memories, literally! Yes, in Puerto Rico, Cuba and Colombia, people make a small stuffed male doll and call it Mr. Old Year. The doll is covered with old clothes from each family member and old memories of the past year. As the midnight clock strikes, people burn away these bad old memories by setting the doll on fire. A weird way to say good bye to the old memories, right?
